I just tried, only ran a 1:04, and I've been at this since the beginning. Guess we just have a natural on our hands.

Dannyboy, I don't know what your are looking for as far as realism, but its pretty hard to compare unless you've ridden your bike w/ using your keyboard/controller to control it. Riding a motorcycle is dead easy, any moron can do it. It's so easy for most of us that we don't have to think about what were doing on the bike, it just comes to us. Now when we are sitting here trying to do what comes naturally in the real world, but trying to do it with a controller we notice all sorts of things you never would in real life because its a totally different control setup and you have to re-learn how to ride, and actually put thought into a lot of things that would never even cross your mind in the real world. The best thing we can all do it put faith in JLV's physics calculations and adapt our controller riding skills to fit what comes of it. If the physics of the game are right the only thing differing from the real world is the control system, and lets face it for a bike it is, and always will the bump (or in this case Mt. Everest) in the road.
I would also like to add this quote...

i think it feels ok after a while i just had to get more used to it i just didnt like the way that there was so much grip that when i slid out it could so easily just pop back up o.O
that used to be a rarity now its just common
reading this post did actually make me think about what i was saying and that your right in the way that riding is easy
this game is still a simulator but i just think the grip is a little too much

Seriously, I can't believe people are still going on about this. The physics are more realistic than before, so what if its easier, that is a good thing

agreed. This is way more realistic. And now that more people can be consistent it will allow for better online racing when we get it.DJ wrote:Seriously, I can't believe people are still going on about this. The physics are more realistic than before, so what if its easier, that is a good thing
Re: 2008-11-19 snapshot
also movies look heaps better because the rider is moving around...
JLV im not sure if you can do this but could you add a menu to put a dead spot in a controller? (PS3 controller to be exact
) It is really really hard to go through a set of whoops and try to pull exactly backwards with out slightly leaning to the side. (and if you get a bit side ways you are going to eat it big-time)
I think the way the controllers are made is kinda like a unit circle? so could u have like, 0 - 0.3, 0 - (-0.3) (on the x axis) dead? or aren't controllers made like that

I don't often give comments on updates but i must say that this is one of the best ever.
I have never been into arcade games. I only play simulators. Since there were no motocross sims available i always sticked with car sims, mainly LFS, GPL, rFactor, RBR and GTR. When this game came out i immediately bought it and i just love it. This update adds a lot more realism to the game. It's fantastic. Offcourse it is not perfect but everything has its flaws. There always is room for improvement.
First i was a little sceptic about the rider movement thing because i just thought that it would to much a hassle. There are so many keys to be pressed (if you use keyboard that is) that it is almost impossble to use it all. You have 3 keys to move (1 forward and 2 brakes), 2 keys to steer (lean left and right), 2 keys for rider movement (lean forward and back) and 2 keys for gears (up and down). That is a total of 9 keys lol. Pls stop adding keys now because i only have 10 fingers
So at first i was sceptic but when this update came out with the rider that now can absorb bumps i was speechless. It improved that game a lot proving me wrong. It's a fantastic update.
I just can't believe that so many people use 3rd person view. A sim should ALWAYS be played in 1st person view. Playing a sim in 3rd person view is concidered cheating in lots of simulators. This because you can look further ahead, you can see what is going on behind a turn and behind a crest and stuff. When playing online most simulators even obligate you to use 1st person view. 3rd person is forbidden. Often your game will automatically switch to 1st person when trying to play online. Just like physics are always automatically set to simulator when playing online.
This said i must add that i just can't believe how you can play in 3rd person. I have tried it. it looks and feels so unnatural and weird that it is just impossible for me to play like this. I crash every single turn lol.
Great work again JLV. Keep it up

Re: 2008-11-19 snapshot
that is a pretty good point about multiplayer...
I mean its pretty unfair if your racing against someone who can see what's going on around them... If you go in for a block pass they will be-able to see it and square up the inside... where as if a person playing 1st person has a block pass on them... AT BEST they might hear it coming up side and the rider holding the power on for a bit longer but not enough to get out of it.
Also for multiplayer maybe a look back button (now thats 10 buttons
) that automatically looks left or right towards the closest rider (and stays there not flick left right if another rider gets closer in that time, and not directly behind because thats pretty unrealistic). I don't think animation would be completely necessary, especially not straight away.
But back to the point of 3rd person, considering how many people use it I don't think its fair to force them to change to 1st person... but something does have to be done to stop that extra advantage of being able to see everything around them... particularly if they increase the field of view to almost the entire track

Im Not gonna race with 1st person... since I get dizzy... lol
If you want fairness you can give the 1st person camera a look back and to the sides feature when the 3d person only can look forward.

Don't get me wrong. I don't call anyone a cheater and i don't want to force anyone in using 1st person view. If you feel more comfortable using 3rd person view then by all means, do so.Motoboss wrote: My opinion is totally opposite of yours so in your eyes im cheating .
I only stated that in lots of sims using 3rd person view is not allowed because of the reason i allready gave.
I don't want anyone to look or feel inferiour because they use 3rd person view or because they don't agree with me. I'm just giving my opinions and i know they are not the law. It's just how i feel this game should be played and how i like it best. If you don't agree then that's fine with me. If you feel better using 3rd person then pls do so.Motoboss wrote: An apple is an apple no matter how you look at it as I said before ...Ive noticed that theres a few people on this site that act like there opinions are the law and some even get buligerent and put people down.....That is wrong ,Its ok to express your opinion but dont make people look like there inferior because they dont agree .
It would give me an unfair advantage if you were to change view no after you got used to 3rd person view so please, if you always play with 3rd person view then continue to do so. I can't understand how you can play in 3rd person view tho. I have tried it. It maybe looks better in air while scrubbing or something but the cornering feels strange and looks unnatural imo.
A look behind (or look left/right) button will indeed be a big help in 1st person view. It will help a lot to know what is going on around you when playing in 1st person view. People playing in 3rd person still will have a slight advantage because they will be able to look further ahead but nothing is stopping me from switching to 3rd person view myself.
Indeed. But i have also said that everything has its flaws. Maybe that still is a flaw in the game. You can't please everybodyMotoboss wrote:Also you cant turn your head 1st person to look around Thats not Sim if you want to be technical .Its like you have blinders on
