Was thinking about this when messing with the 2 stroke version of the 2014 YZF model. Besides less filter surface area to stop debris, what are the drawbacks to cone air filters instead of using an airbox? Obviously the flow of the air into the carb (or those weird throttle body things you guys have) will change, but you'd think it would help for throttle response since there's hesitation of the flow through the airbox right? I took a fluids class so I'm not totally inept with this, but do the flow characteristics really improve performance that much? I'm pretty sure I had one for my KTM 50 but never used it.

I know that these days they engineer the air box to shape/guide the pulses of air kinda like with an expansion chamber. I tried to go to K&N's on my 550 Four Honda and it sucked(or didn't haha) after I took out my airbox.

I would like to have one of those under jersey complete upper body armor stuff from them though.
