Whats your pc?
Re: Whats your pc?
I guess its all personal preference. For me I hate Windows 8 and the metro screen and the file management system for W8 seems so dumbed down that it actually makes it more difficult to get to what I want. with 8.1 they brought back the start button but it takes you to the stupid metro screen, cause thats what everyone complained about
. You can get an actual start menu through some 3rd party programs but the internals for 8/8.1 that it will never be something I recommend to anyone. If you've tried it and you liked it then by all means use it but for me it isn't anything I'll want.

Finished build pics as promised:

I think it turned out quite nicely. Sorry a little blurry cuz I shot them hand held was too lazy to get the tripod out and a little large but I don't feel like resizing at the moment.

Thanks Puma, watched a few videos on 8.1 and I see what you mean, never used it before I've always ran Vista but there doesnt seem to be many different programs that are supported by Vista. What OS do you run?

Re: Whats your pc?
8.1 with Classic shell is fine IMO. With them dropping Windows 7 support (not fully but any major development I guess) earlier than expected its kinda hard to recommend anyone buy 7 at this point IMO.
I will say that with my limited experience using 8.1 on my Gfs new computer it is a huge PITA. I put on a classic shell and that made it 10x better but I have not explored it fully. Its just dumb stuff like how to put a shortcut on the desktop or access the control panel but I think the classic shell fixes most of that. It was just such a bonehead move to completely redo the UI that so many people already knew inside and out. For me to need to google how to put a shortcut on the desktop is just ridiculous.

Yea 8/8.1 looks really shitty tbh. Although Its only really the new start menu that brings it down, that Classic shell software is pretty awesome though.

Super pumped on getting a new computer as I am constantly using 90%+ of my RAM and it is really slowing me down. Also adding a new network switch to the building to take advantage of port aggregation on our server and up the speed of the connections to gigabit lan.
Will probably start next week, the case isn't going to be here until Monday and I am going out of town Friday until Tuesday anyways.
Specs:
Asus Sabertooth z97 Mark II
I7-4790k (only a few $$$ more than the 4770k I was planning why not)
16GB Gskill Ares 1600
EVGA GTX 760 SC 2gb
NZXT H440 Case (Super stoked on this case, I think I may be in love)
NZXT Krakken X61 (excited to try this out)
Corsair CX500M
Samsung EVO 250gb SSD (will be the only drive since all our files are on the server)

GTX770? Any good? i wanna save a little bit and not get a 780
Re: Whats your pc?
I have a EVGA 770 4gb SC in my home PC and it has not let me down yet. I can not find a reason why I should have got a 780, I think unless you are gaming at 4k or on multiple monitors a 770 will probably do you just fine.Jayaym # 119 wrote:GTX770? Re: Whats your pc?
Hey can someone tell me if you need a Wifi card in your build? My computer will be in my room which is about 40ft from the wireless router and is a few rooms away so i dont want to be somehow routing an ethernet cable through my house

Re: Whats your pc?
If you aren't using a wire and want internet then you will have to use wireless one way or another. There are also the Powerline kits which are pretty sweet and are a better alternative to wireless for speeds but a little more pricey because of all the parts you need for it. If thats to much for you get a PCI x1 card if possible, I don't think USB wireless is anywhere near as strong.
