Graphical improvments : blur (yet ?)

Post by totorox »

Why there's some screenshots with blur on backdrop ? Is the game handle depth of field with some graphic cards or it's just some pictures edited ?
- If OpenGL handle that, it could be a nice feature.
- Motion blur too, particulary in 1st person view could be fantastic :)
It look like some games use blur to improve performances (like lowering by half the resolution for rear plan and applying a quick antialiasing on it).
- In other graphical improvement, dust clouds could be nice too. I remember some crazy starts in MX where i can see only my front wheel. This race was canceled because it was too crazy and dangerous, but funny to remember.

I believe it's generally done with a shader that blurs based on pixel depth. It should decrease performance a little.

They are edited.

Even if this shader remove pixels from calculation and use a quarter of pixels for rendering ? I don't know how, but some games looks like enhancing performance with motion blur on fast movements but maybe i'm wrong.

ps: Anyway, graphical enhancements are nice but secondary for me. For me, MXS need some work on gameplay 1st (always loading/save settings screen), if you need money to develop further, MXS need to be more user-'noobs'-friendly (helpers, dl links for updates, missing tracks, etc) but my 1st of wishes is to know want you want for MXS, what you can and what you can't, for near, middle or far in the future. And (gulp) if you have a problem (like de*th:x) MXS will be de*d too ? yeah, some weird curious asks... But I think MXS, your work and also customers work, deserves we think about ^^
Long live to JLV !!!
