+1

I agree.
You can ask him to unlock it, but that seems like a ton of work having to unlock every thread. And we would have a lot less double posts everyone gets pissed about.

I think he said it is because people could cover up their tracks if they posted something that shouldn't have been posted.

People were abusing it a lot around here. From what I've learned over the years, JLV can afford the extra storage for the added posts, and not the added headache of having people trying to cause trouble on his forums.

Yeah that makes sense. JLV's brain is on a-whole-nother level.

Why not just make i so you can edit the post for the first 5 or 10 minutes then after that it is locked.

There was someone who posted a lot of crap and then edited it away. People were complaining to me about it but the posts were gone so I had no idea what happened. That's not something I find acceptable. If phpbb kept an edit history it would be different. But it doesn't so I'd rather have no editing at all.

You guys wouldn't have survived on USENET.

I know there are mods for it. The problem is they're likely to break when you upgrade phpBB. Hate having to merge a bunch of patches every time I upgrade. I'm not a big fan of post editing anyway so it's not a big issue to me.

What about you have to have an admin or mods approval so they can view the edit like, a before and after e.g unedited, edited.
