a few questions and suggestions from a beginner..not a noob!

Post by giopanda »

hello everyone,
finally after 4 days watching videos, reading threads and playing the demo i decided to buy the game!
so far the best mx game i played, i had so much fun playing the mototrax career but tired of the arcade style it (and every other game) has.
i read someone complain about the price, sure 38 euros are not an indie game price, but since this is not actually a "game", it is a one man project and we get lifetime free updates and tons of mods, it's ok!

so, of course i have a lot to learn, right now i'm training to lower the stability and reach the compromise before starting with a setup.
reading through the forum (i can't read all those pages at once so please forgive me if something has already been written) and searching in the game directory i didn't found any sort of manual, so why don't we do one ourself?
just explaining how to do things in a simple way, what does what in the setup and in the menus, i don't think is anything difficult.
some video tutorial on how to drive the bike correctly (start, fast turns, slow turns, how to take berms and ruts and most of all how to jump since i played 3 days before getting it right) would be awesome for beginners like me but maybe this is too much work for you..i just ask.
maybe gathering all the posts and put together a downloadable pdf.

there's something else but i will post it in the suggestion thread.

speaking about technical files, i downloaded of course version 1.2 but i don't know if the snapshot is more updated than the file i have.
checking the creation date in the file properties is useless since the file i have has been created the exact moment i installed the game, so is the snapshot a sort of little patch inside the game version?

i also installed the necessary files in the personal folder:
newtrees.rar
environment pack 1.zip
ddmx object pack.rar
ddmx object pack 2.rar
dj treeset.7z
object pk1.7z

and the bikes:
DDMX_Wilson_bike_pack.rar
$Z-YamahaModels.7z
ddmx Rider Model V2.rar
Fox V3.7z
WheelsHD_RC2.rar

is there anything i am missing from the must have files?

now i'm going to learn how to open .saf files and start some skins..and maybe learn how to use the editor since there are a couple of real tracks i always wanted to ride in a game (since i can't ride them in real life no more).

so here it is, sorry for the long post and hope you can understand my english..i think i'm the second italian around here..we could put up a team :D

Well firstly welcome! and thank you for your very mature initial post!

OK a few things.
1. At the moment the 1.2 update is the latest version. When a new snapshot is released it will appear at the top of the general discussion thread.

2. As for the unpacking of .saf's - A saf is really a way for people to protect there work. To make a skin work that is in the form .saf just place it in the mx simulator personal folder. Dont even worry about making a saf until you make some really good skins!

If you want more info on skins have a look here http://mxsimulator.com/benchracing3/vie ... f=1&t=1212

3. As for the help with riding there are a few tips on bike setup here - http://mxsimulator.com/benchracing3/vie ... elp#p61492
However really is comes down to lots and lots of practice.

Also if your not already you should investigate getting a controller with analog sticks... really helps in this game!

4. Skins and tracks can be found here - http://www.puremxs.com/
Or in the tracks/skins and models threads in this forum.

I hope some of that helped and again welcome!

looking around the forum i noticed i can use .png files for skin, very nice!
btw, what's the difference between a .saf skin and a .png one?

i'm using a xbox360 wired controller, i tried just once with keyboard just to try and it's pretty impossible!

i'm downloading like a fool almost everything just to try it out!

A png and saf serve the same purpose.

A png however can be read by anyone and if its any good people will likely "rip" or copy your work.
A saf is like a file vault that stops or at least makes it very hard for people to copy someone's work.

so i guess there's a .saf encoder and not a decoder..that's why i've been warned not to try to open saf files, am i correct?

Small correction - saf is just a simple format for bundling multiple files together. It's not encrypted or anything. No one has published an extractor, but that's just because the people who know how choose not to.
