Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
The only guy around here who i would give my money is jlv, why?Because he is the only guy who actually updates the game itself, not doing a fancy new model.
My work will always be free for MXsim,i may ask another 100 likes or so,but i enjoy doing skins, tracks for MXsim and a simple thank you is enough for me.
The only thing what i would like to see being released is an updated .saf,so all us "creators" will feel safe again.

Actually I don't even see ripping as a problem as I've probably said before, since my line is to release all the stuff needed if it's 100% in my own hands.
Ladies and gentlemen and Phat, don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less about "making" money through mxs, would be a very dumb move to even try. Every guy should see there has been and will be another motivator called joy.
Actually getting really hard to discuss because people are so active now. Money is a holy cow I see.

The "excuse" for charging (and not releasing all the files) is ripping and ungrateful people, so I would like to ask...
Did the ripping really cause you not to release your stuff or... Did you not releasing your stuff cause people to rip?
It's funny, when doing design budgets at THQ a team of 2 vehicle modeled could do nearly unlimited models but 5 track designers with 8 environment artists could only fit in limited amount of tracks into the dev cycle of a game. I'll let you think what you wish of that.

Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
I kind of understand this topic but I don't. I know I personally only learnt to click "apply rotation and scale" from DJ. And P2sta taught me to export JM's but as far as skinning and modeling goes (Other than the off tip and some great tips from Clay) I haven't been taught anything.
I really don't care to much about the ripping, obviously it doesn't effect me but I'm not sure I would be too phased. People have ripped my stuff before.
For all the people that say ""If I could model, I would do it for free" How are you any different then Ramon? As far as I know he hasn't gone to any top quality modeling school, yet. You have to learn these things you don't just click a button and you magically start making models, it take time and time is money.
With the time and money thing said it makes me partially understand why they would want donations. If you were to work your ass off to make something, why would you give it out? To be nice? Why do people get so butt hurt about others running there skins? Same thing really. The skins make you an individual, having your own model does the same. (Of course its much better)
As for Chris, you were once payed for this, no? I guess after awhile of guaranteed pay, you stopped caring? Hey, maybe after awhile they will too. Who knows. I personally can't see myself paying for models but I would be more than happy to pay a seasons race fee of $10 or so to rf. With 300+ active users at $10 a season that's over 3k a season and at-least 6k a year. Its not a lot for what you do but its still a decent amount.

Wow people get enraged easily.
This shouldn't create a job for creators, and I don't believe a normal wage should be made from this, but a little money can be a motivator for some. So to Attacker and the Kickstarter idea, I say go for it if it motivates you. Be reasonable and professional, maybe people outside this community will become interested and fund it. And with that, I guess a lot of people here forget to realize, Kickstarter is an external site, NOT made up of this community. While it would make sense for some here to participate, you don't have to.
Realistically, an unknown could have posted a similar project on Kickstarter 2 months ago, got funded, and finished a model for this game, to post the release tomorrow, yet none here were involved. Reason for pointing this out; don't blame the Kickstarter idea for potentially "ruining" the community. Guns don't kill people.
For failure or success, lets see how it works out, if the idea was meant to fail, it will.
With most things though, I'd like to see success rather than failure, no matter what it is. (<<Oh look, some positivity, how rare.)

Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
I was never paid when I did it for the MVA community, and never for MXS. When I was employed by THQ, yes I was paid. I was creating content for customers, not a community there. We weren't getting free content from a community and selling ours. Not sure what you mean by "stopped caring". Although it sounds great to get paid for my MXS creations, I'd rather receive payment through others also providing kick ass content for free. As in, I'd rather get a new track from Motoboss vs. getting paid blah blah dollars for a track release. Same with a skin or bike model or race series or even watching one of the top guys rip up my masterpiece doing lines I never thought possible.Boblob801 wrote:As for Chris, you were once payed for this, no? Or rF and MXS Central could continue to operate for free and not bite the hand that feeds them. Without members, racing sites are worthless, so might not be the best approach.Boblob801 wrote:I personally can't see myself paying for models but I would be more than happy to pay a seasons race fee of $10 or so to rf. I would be honored if some one ripped my stuff, too bad nobody likes it enough to do so haha.
People have different motivations and Ramon's is money, so be it. I wouldn't mind donating sick gnar model, it just better be detailed and top of the line as. People shouldn't get mad 'cause he wants money and I don't think anybody should quit releasing things just 'cause one guy is getting paid for it, let's just test it out and see how it goes. Ramon really brings a lot of new things to the community that some people may not like but I guess some of you don't like hipsters.

So why should Ramon get paid for something and for example, not Haggqvist?ehm24 wrote:I would be honored if some one ripped my stuff, too bad nobody likes it enough to do so haha.

Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
Barrington I think you missed the concept as have many in this topic. People see the word money and they instantly freak out, and then jump to conclusions before they even know what is going on. No one is saying they deserve money. No one is asking for money here just donations for FUTURE content. What has been done is done. If Hagg feels he wants money for his future tracks he could start his own kickstarter, as every other creator here.
Nothing is free in life unfortunately. This game wasn't free. JLV said that once he is over this game and is done making money from it he will release the source files. Why is any different for a creator to get the money they want from their work and once they get that money then the files are released? I don't see a difference really.
