This is really about the moral high road, JLV is on it and Chex is too. They unfortunately won't get more people to act that way, but overpriced shit will give big ideas to other creators. It's basically the gentrification of this community and it's lame. You seem to think it helps.
I'm still waiting for you to back up your ludicrous ideals.

No need to reiterate to an illiterate. I just think you need to continue on with the smug self-satisfaction about the value of your work.

As someone just starting to get into the game, this thread offers a lot of insight into the community. Not all of it negative, I do appreciate the reasoned, rational responses and that everyone is apparently being given room to debate the topic.

My take, as a brand new user...

There is a metric caption of free stuff, way more than I can consume in many months of learning the game. That content is one of the factors of my buying the game. There is more than enough to get me into the game and decide when and if I am good enough if I want to pay the membership and compete. Heck, $25 for a bunch of updated tracks, when I will potentially put hours into learned and riding them is not a big deal.

Thinking about how much time i put into rFactor / DTR / DTR2 and all their mods, the games initial price is trivial. How many games right now are charging you $5 - $15 for a half dozen tracks?

I run into this issue a lot as a photographer, price guilt... that guy does it for free / cheap / less than you etc, why won't you? Like me, the content creators are not running to the bank and investing in real estate or gold bullion with what they make here selling content. They are recouping an insultingly small amount of cash for their time, expertise and skills. Until, attaboys, kudos and exposure pay my rent or buy my groceries, I will take cash money and expect the people busting their butts to host, organize and provide content and racing series to insist on compensation they can actually take to the bank.

As a consumer, it is up to you to consume or not. Having a toys out of the pram style fit because people won't give you their work for free is rather immature.

Well thought out and stated, regardless of which side of this debate you may be on. Thanks for bringing a bit of civility back to this discussion, and welcome!

Please explain my illiteracy. I'm sure you will be able to explain just like you have with all of your accusations I have called you out on. Stubborn fool you are.

The fact you still believe that I am going on about my self-satisfaction on the value of my work is a testament to who is the true illiterate in this conversation.

Also track is good, once you figure out lines. Some of those braking bumps are brutal.
We would rather not share the number. As you can see by signups already I'm sure, they have done well. Better than we anticipated, showing once again that the majority of the community (not the vocal minority) support what we are doing and offering and feel it is a fair value.

One....last....time. I would, but it would be like going way out into the woods and telling a hillbilly that inbreeding is wrong.

Mason and Havoc, I respect both of you in your own ways. I think its time to just agree to disagree, this argument is going nowhere.

That's exactly what I'm doing, shaming is the word I refer to. I'd say it was similar to you charging the price of an entire photo shoot for a single photo.
This same kind of (dare I say)debate happened at the beginning of the personal computer age when people started charging for software. I'm the Richard Stallman.

"I would, but..."

I'm starting to seem some similarities here.

Nice to meet you Dick.

I like your metaphor and have watched many discussions on the subject.

I either charge for my time, and single photographs are not available, or I put up a gallery priced for single photograph sales. That's me, that works for me... I get to see bad ass racing from the biggest telephoto I can eke out of my budget.

To turn that back to this discussion, either someones content is for sale or it is not. To make selling it worth their while, they have decided on a price. I don't understand the acrimony about them not giving their work away.
