Next snapshot breaking compatibility

Post by jlv »

The next snapshot (and server) is going to support up to 160 slots, which won't be compatible with the current protocol. Will it be OK to test this on 19802? This means everyone competing on 19802 would have to run the new version.

It's done now. I just wanted to give a fair warning before putting it up on 19802. This isn't for running 160 players BTW, it's for extra room to stage more than one class.

So, it has the possibility of having 160 people in the server though? I hope that not everyone can use the chat

There's no restriction on it, so if you had a 600 megabit connection you could run 160 players. I'm thinking more along the lines of 22 or 40 players racing, with the next class spectating.

So this means no more need to lock the server before big races? :)

Locking the server doesn't actually mean what most people think. All it does is prevent players from switching to and from spec mode. This is meant to let more people in on race day though.

What I meant by that is no more kicking everyone out to make sure people who are racing are able to get in?

That's correct. We might still clear the server before we reserve the slots anyway, but this should help with that.

 Now if we could get that "default new connectors to mute while chat is globally muted by an admin" command Organized racing just took a serious turn onto awesome
