Unreal 3 engine goes public

Post by ddmx »

The Unreal engine used to make games such Unreal Tournament 3 is now public domain. What I wouldn't do to see mxs in this environment. That would truly be the cats meow. JLV's amazing physics code, with unreal's unreal graphics.

The graphics in that game look great, like a high def Xbox 360/PS3 game. That would be sweet if we could get mxs in that engine and probably further the definition of the graphics. But is this realistic? Will JLV's coding be able to be put into this engine?

UnrealScript features a built-in compiler and integrated preprocessor. Java and C++ programmers can jump right in to scripting.
Not quite sure if this means that jlv can straight copy and paste his code with little changes or what.

Some of this stuff is amazing.

enough with first person shooters!
look what this engine is capable to do with a driving game (almost simulator) and think at what could be with mxs physics..converting would be reach the graphic/effects levels of reflex, but with a waaaay better game!
drooling!

Really, the game engine means nothing without having the skill and numbers to create such detailed environments. None of us have the time to fully dedicate ourselves to making such an environment.

And I don't think the unreal tournament engine would work for a racing game, it would be more optimised for buildings etc, not heightfield maps.

You kidding DJ? If jlv EVER utilized this engine for mxs, I would put ample time into making the most badass tracks around. Think of the possibilities.

If he did implement this engine, everything would need to be redone.

The texture splatting terrain engine is actually less flexible than what we have now. I also like having the ability to run on pre SM3 graphics cards. It is a good engine though.

I guess if we're thinking next gen, then unreal would be the way to go imo. But if the goal is keep the game low key, and playable on systems such as Windows 98, then I guess the way it is now is good. Graphics aren't everything, gameplay is. BUT, graphics sell, gameplay doesn't nowadays.

I'd say more than half of my sales go to integrated graphics users. It's possible to have good graphics and still scale down well.

This game engine is nice, and like gio posted theres nice details on that game (driving)
BUT still i think this game has become more and more better looking all the time!
And its like what 1.2 version? (with few updated there and thore)
But anyways, i like it now, i runs good on our 2 computers and if i need detail i just use better one!
Now that the animation is made possible and shaders are also possible, its hell a lot easyer to get good game running !
