Oculus Rift?

Post by Gornall43mx »

I've recently been watching some videos on YouTube at the Oculus Rift and I wondered if it could be implemented into MXS?
If you're not sure what the Oculus Rift is, check this out:

Discuss here the opportunities this would bring to the game, how realistic it would become if anyone could get their hands on developing this for MXS.
JLV, tell us what you think!

It does look like cool technology. I don't know if I'll do any of the fancy temporal aliasing stuff* that Carmack and Abrash are talking about I'd like to get the basics going on it at least.

* For lack of a better term. You can read Michael Abrash's blog if you're curious - http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/abrash/

Im gona bump this and would like to see where's JVL stands with this now.

Any chance it will be implanted anythime soon ?

This is something MXsim lacks, the abillity to check your surroundings (in first person), or atleast a "look back" feture.

From what I've read games like MXS are very disorienting on the Oculus Rift, so I expect it'll be more of a novelty than something you'd want to play with seriously. I don't plan on doing anything with it until I've pretty much run out of important things to do.

I see, well, I cant see how that would be much more disoriented then a racing sim. gotta test it in MX Bikes then (when i can finally can manage the bike control overall)

But a "look back/look left/look right" feature atleast couldn't be to much to ask for ?
Would be both pratical and a little extra stylish with lookback whips.
