Istalling demo in Linux

Post by Ih8Hondas »

So I have been using Linux for a total of four days. I am running the Mint12 distribution and have solved a few problems but, as you would expect, am far from having mastered the terminal. My plan is to install the demo to make sure everything is in working order before buying the full game. I tried running the "mx" directory several times but it didn't install itself like the readme says it should and I can't figure how to set the environment variable to "MX_HOME" like it says to if it doesn't install. I have looked up tutorials and such for installing it and all I've found is ones for the full game. I've changed the directory name to the demo one and everything but still have not gotten it to work.

Also, if someone could help me install an xbox360 controller driver that would be great. I couldn't make this one work. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Xbox3 ... leshooting

I thought it should work since Mint is Ubuntu based (if I'm not mistaken).

Again, I'm a total Linux n00b so take it easy on me.

Try opening a terminal and running it from there.

cd /wherever/you/untarred/mxsimulator-demo-1_5/
./mx

Hopefully you'll at least get an error message that way.

bash: cd/home/ethan/install/mxsimulator-demo-1_5/./mx: No such file or directory
That was after I even checked the properties of the mx file to make sure I got all the directories leading up to it correct.

Is there some software package I need to install to make it work?

Even when I hit run in terminal a window pops up for a fraction of a second and just disappears. Nothing shows up in it or anything.

Type this:

cd /home/ethan/install/mxsimulator-demo-1_5/

Make sure there is a space between "cd" and "/home/ethan/install/mxsimulator-demo-1_5/". Then press ENTER.

If you get an error message, check the pathname and try again. If you don't know already, you can use the tab key to auto complete filenames which is usually easier than typing them out.

If you get another prompt without an error message, type this:

./mx

Then press ENTER.

Aha. Yeah. I forgot to put a space there. I'll try it again when I get home. Hopefully it works then.

Didn't work. Still says not such file or directory.
cd /home/ethan/install/mxsimulator-demo-1_5/

./mx

./mx: line 10: /home/ethan/install/mxsimulator-demo-1_5/mxbin: No such file or directory

I also found a list of my environment variables and MX_HOME is not in it.

It says you're missing "mxbin". After you cd to "mxsimulator-demo-1_5", type "ls -l" and press enter.

That's weird. The file is obviously there so I'm not sure why it's not working. Does it work if you do this:

MX_HOME=. ./mxbin

Haha. That's what I've been thinking this whole time.
MX_HOME=. ./mxbin
bash: ./mxbin: No such file or directory
Nope.

I forgot to say, you need to cd to the mx sim directory before running that.

Also, try "md5sum mxbin". You should get this:

fb9814d05b2c71df7cef8d2dba4c0309 mxbin

~/install/mxsimulator-demo-1_5 $ MX_HOME=. ./mxbin
bash: ./mxbin: No such file or directory
The second thing came out right though.

It might do that if it's missing a library. Try "ldd mxbin".

~/install/mxsimulator-demo-1_5 $ ldd mxbin
