V Sync

So i just found out if i turn V sync off in my nvidia control panel i get 125 FPS everywhere. My question is what does this do for the game or visuals to the game. I did not notice any difference myself but figured i wanted to know a bit more about it. With it on i get 60 FPS and like i said with it off 125 so what does this affect on and off?

V sync locks the framerate to the same refresh rate as your screen, i.e. 60 Hz.

Locking your frame rate can effect your offset when playing online.

If you don't notice the tearing* with vsync off you should leave it off.
