PS4 controller causing game to freeze?

Ive been using a PS4 controller for sim for quite some time now with no problem. Recently though Ive noticed that it disconnects at random times and I have to unplug/plug it back in to get it to work again, which is very annoying especially if I am racing online. It has escalated to the point now where the controller disconnects and sim actually freezes for around 20 seconds then unfreezes with me stuck WFO . At this point the window I have Mx sim running in is not the primary window even though its still full screen, which leaves me stuck WFO and muted until I plug in the controller again and click on the window for mxs (i use windowed mode). However, Ive noticed that it does not do any of this if I am editing a track and switch to first person to shred a couple laps at most

Is the controller causing any of this? If not, whats going on? Any help is much appreciated. (first person(s) to help solve the issue will get an early release of MX Battlegrounds as it is almost done)
