Computer recomendations? (Desktop)
Hey everybody. I took a few month break from MXS and am ready for a comeback. But the laptop i use to play on isnt gonna do the job. So I would just like a few recomendations for desktops. My price range will be from 0 ( of course
) to 400$. This will be MAINLY for MXS. Feel free to post links to anything.
Thanks
Thanks

I took the time to pick out some parts on newegg, for about 450$ I could build a pc that should run mxs just fine with at least 30 people. If you're interested, the specs are:
Processer: Intel core i-3-2100, 3.1 ghz LGA 1155 dual core
Gfx card: Sparkle GeForce Gtx 460 (ranked 24th on passmark.com high end cards) GDDR5
RAM: 8gb DDR3 PC3 8500

Processer: Intel core i-3-2100, 3.1 ghz LGA 1155 dual core
Gfx card: Sparkle GeForce Gtx 460 (ranked 24th on passmark.com high end cards) GDDR5
RAM: 8gb DDR3 PC3 8500

It won't?ShackAttack12 wrote:FYI, that wont run MXS with 30 people....
a 460 should be able to handle 30 riders... maybe not with shaders enabled...
How about a GTX 560? That should do just fine...
Zane, I live in the USA, Washington to be specific, IMHO, you would get a much better/cheaper computer building one than buying a prebuilt... The pc I'm building is around 1600$, but would probably be a 3000-4000$ alienware

core i3 is a weak processor, and if that's included in your 1600$ build, you are buying all the wrong parts man.Stickerz wrote:It won't?ShackAttack12 wrote:FYI, that wont run MXS with 30 people....

Re: Computer recomendations? (Desktop)
Nothing in that list is included in my 1600$ build, I'm not that stupid, this is a budget build for Zane
a gtx 560 will run 30+ riders just fine, and I know i-3 is weak, it's also inexpensive...

a GTX 460 is perfect for 30 riders.Stickerz wrote:Nothing in that list is included in my 1600$ build, I'm not that stupid, this is a budget build for Zanea gtx 560 will run 30+ riders just fine, and I know i-3 is weak, it's also inexpensive...
Just keep in mind that OpenGL games are more CPU based than anything.

I remember JLV saying something about high amounts of cache...what is it and where can I mine it? Keep in mind I'm using a cobblestone pickaxe...ShackAttack12 wrote:a GTX 460 is perfect for 30 riders.Stickerz wrote:Nothing in that list is included in my 1600$ build, I'm not that stupid, this is a budget build for Zanea gtx 560 will run 30+ riders just fine, and I know i-3 is weak, it's also inexpensive...

But seriously, what is it? I'm guessing it is some sort of cpu memory mumbo jumbo...

Re: Computer recomendations? (Desktop)
It's faster memory. The L1 cache usually runs at full speed so the CPU can access the memory in 1 cycle. The L2 is usually a little slower with something like 5-10 cycles of latency. Main memory is usually more like 100 cycles to access depending on the memory and CPU. If you don't have enough cache your computer will spend most of its time waiting on the memory.wheels1758 wrote:I remember JLV saying something about high amounts of cache...what is it and where can I mine it? As far as the CPU choice goes, I have no trouble with 30 riders on a Core i3. I was easily over 100 fps for Sweendoggy's MV2 race. That was with stock models and roost off though. My graphics card is a passive cooled GT 240, which is a pretty mediocre card.
