This is a shady memory, but I do believe I remember jlv saying copy was better for pcs that lacked a dedicated GPU, and direct would run faster if you had dedicated graphics. I could easily be wrong though

dedicated just means the GPU is on its own card, as in not integrated with the CPU, that's what google seemed to say at least.
