Pala National - Reference Gathering
Pala National - Reference Gathering
Welp, I've been toying off and on with getting a terrain set up for Pala to re-create the sick track that ended the 2010 AMA Nationals, and I'm really excited about putting the project from messing around stages into high gear. Being that I haven't been to Pala, I'm looking for some help to make sure I get everything accurate from a layout/scale standpoint, which is the first big step to creating a replica.
This image is around the internet, but I don't believe it's accurate on how the track ended up. Can anyone who was there help by doing a draw over to update the layout to what the track actually was? WIth that as a starting point, I should be able to put the rest together from videos and images.

Also, if you have good broad view (showing a lot of the track or sections, not close up of the riders) feel free to post them here. Good video of the actual national track (not just the amateur portion which is different from what I've seen) is more than welcome too.
Please help keep this thread clean and limited to just reference to the project. As I get further along I'll update the Upcoming Tracks thread where you can comment further as we anticipate release.
And before you ask, if I want you to beta, I will find you, so no need to volunteer here. Once we get to that stage, I will make a post getting more people who have been there involved, but for now I have my crew of beta testers in mind.
Thanks in advance for the help, and I hope I can make this track come to life for the MXS community.

The basic layout is pretty close. Jumps were a tiny bit different. I have to go to work right now but I'll put something together for you tonight or tomorrow.

trip post time.
so what i highlighted in red is what i know well of the track. so i know the elevations on the right side (from the pic) pretty well and everything else is pretty flat. i dont really have any good pics that show the elevation but if you have questions just pm me. and i am sure you know that it needs to be rough and veryyyy sandy. pm me with any questions

skip to 4min.
And after that, think again about what you said.

I'm leaving for So Cal in about 13 days, If you want me to gather specific information just tell me what. I can also get photos for you.
Re: Pala National - Reference Gathering
Kwic, that would be great. Just broad views of the track from further away would be great so I can see how/where the sections fit together and get a good idea of the general overall elevation.
Re: Pala National - Reference Gathering
Ok I will do that when I get down there.
Re: Pala National - Reference Gathering
Hmm, this kid is a goof. Southwick is also a sand track retard. have you SEEN Pala? that track is knarly. loose, messy, few hard packed corners and straights, last time a checked you dont get 2 foot deep ruts on a hard packed track, its slick. watch videos of the national man. puts that track to shame. Open your mouth a little bigger next time you shove your foot in it! LmaoHeijneMX57 wrote:Hey adhk, you said the track should be rough and veryyyy sandy lol. Re: Pala National - Reference Gathering
To me, and the way I intend to build it, Pala appears to be a silty top soil that is similar to sand with a hard base underneath. It really ruts through the top soil, but then gets really square edged holes and more solid ruts than sand because of the hard base.
