drawing the track

when i try to draw the track it says update needed.
what update is this?
and where do i get it?

That doesn't mean anything. That message has been there since the game was first released. No idea why its there

but even if i try to lower or raise the ground it doesn't do anything.

Back in the prereleases, you had to press u to update the back buffer (AKA: making it show up on the track), since then it has been removed and automatically updates.
