Sky

Post by DJ99X »

Hey JLV, is there any way to change the sky for each individual track? I remember testing someone elses track, and their sky was just white.

If so, is it the same set up as in MVA, where they use pics like this-

It might have a skybox, which is an actual sphere (or box)around the entire place, and you put skins onto that. I know that's how anyother game I have worked on did it.

It depends on the game though.

In "lighting" add this:

sky_n @northsky.png
sky_e @eastsky.png
sky_s @southsky.png
sky_w @westsky.png
sky_u @upsky.png

Wow, that seems complex. This may take some tinkering......

Its kinda hard hey. You really need some sort of software to curve the pictures right, otherwise you can see the corners. It was easy with my supercross track, cos it was black and hid the corners.

But anyway, to the point. I'm guessing its not working for you? Don't forget you need to add the folder name into it, eg for my toronto track

sky_n @Toronto/northsky.png
sky_e @Toronto/eastsky.png

etc. the files don't have to be called eastsky.png either, you can just call it east if you want.

EDIT- Give one of these a go-

sun_vector [ 1.00 1.00 1.00 ]
sun_color [ 1.00 1.00 0.50 ]
ambient [ 0.25 0.25 0.50 ]
sky_n@Hondatt/northsky.png
sky_e@Hondatt/eastsky.png
sky_s@Hondatt/southsky.png
sky_w@Hondatt/westsky.png
sky_u@Hondatt/upsky.png

thats what mine says

You're missing spaces -

sun_vector [ 1.00 1.00 1.00 ]
sun_color [ 1.00 1.00 0.50 ]
ambient [ 0.25 0.25 0.50 ]
sky_n @Hondatt/northsky.png
sky_e @Hondatt/eastsky.png
sky_s @Hondatt/southsky.png
sky_w @Hondatt/westsky.png
sky_u @Hondatt/upsky.png

Make sure it is in powers of 2, something like 512x512 or 1024x1024

Sorry to bring back the dead, but I didn't think it was necessary to start a new topic. I was searching for information on how to make skys. I found this in the screenshot topic:
WILSONATV wrote:You need this script for terragen, itll render your sky in 4 images. Just convert them to png.they should be in your mx sim folder. the one under program files.
ddmx488 wrote:only used terragen once. how do you use that script?
DJ wrote:Terragen> Execute script
Make sure in the Rendering control panel, Image size is 512x512, (or 960x960 and resize to 1024x1024 later), the detail slider is at full, and in render settings, and in the quality tab, move all sliders to the end.
I am able to run the script, but when it is done and I save, it only saves the last frame. Am I missing something?
