MXS Twitter
Re: MXS Twitter
I don't think AMD's the problem. I have an all-AMD/ATI system, and while there was a hiccup with the graphics card, I got that ironed out, and it's been running strong for just over a year.

Re: MXS Twitter
Agreed about the hardware vs. software part. I had Radeon's for several gens and was disappointed that I had to roll back my GL drivers for MXS to work. When I had to replace, I got a GTX 550 Ti and...BOOM! Perfect. I have no reason to be biased against ATI other than the GL implementation.

This is being very lazy on my end, but Mason can you give a short recap of the problem and what you've done so far? I'll try to help as best I can. Do you have another computer at all to test things with?

Re: MXS Twitter
Yeah, I know, I was just saying that AMD cards can beat out nVidia cards in price to performance ratios alot of the time. Intel however, make great CPUs, and a CPU shouldn't be something you skimp out on. Intel easily beats AMD the majority of the time when compared.Phathry25 wrote:I wasn't implying I thought ATI and AMD were one in the same. I was able to come to the conclusion that Mason had built an AMD/ATi rig based on his comments, thus why I mentioned Intel and nVidia in my comment.
Re: MXS Twitter
Specs:
FX-8120 8 core CPU
AMD Radeon HD 7870 2gb
Gigabyte 970-DS3 motherboard
Corsair TX650 V2 650W PSU
1tb hdd
Windows 7 64 bit
Ripjaws 16gb (8x2) ram
Things I have done:
RMA'd GPU
Re-seated GPU, RAM, and all PSU connections
Virus scan
Uninstalled, re-installed, updated, and rolled back drivers for GPU
Updated BIOS
Checked event logs
What it does:
At random my screen will go blank. Most commonly in a 3d modeling software though such as blender and 3ds max. Its not a set number of time either blender will crash a lot quicker than 3ds max. When my screen goes blank I can't do anything, my computer doesn't shut off, and if I'm listening to to music or am in teamspeak I can still talk and hear. My screen is most commonly a whitish grey screen also. Its just frustrating as shit.

Re: MXS Twitter
have you done anything with RAM? If you can still hear things then its not your MB because you are using the sound card in the board and it makes no sense for that to still work if your board went out. What is the max supported RAM of your board?
Re: MXS Twitter
Some of these might be a long shot or not related at all, but it can rule things out. If you RMA'd your card and it's doing the same thing, I would think it's not the card itself.
1. Stupid question, but just making sure. You have installed the whole drive suite right, and not just the display drivers? When you updated/rollback the drivers, have you tried following
this (using the driver sweeper step)?
2. Another silly question, when you built it (assuming you did) did you install ALL of the chipset drivers? Have you checked for updates for these drivers?
3. Try different PCI-E cables on your power supply to your card.
4. Try the other PCI-E socket on your board (the lower one).
5. Do you have another graphics card to put in the system to test with? If you do, install it and make sure you have the correct drivers and try to use it the same way to see if it goes blank still.
6. Try using only one of your two sticks of RAM.
Do these last.
6. Use a program like Prime95 to stress your CPU. WATCH TEMPERATURES!!!. If nothing happens after 45mins to and hour, you should be fine.
7. Test your memory for faults: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso. There are options to use it from a flash drive, but the easiest way is to burn it to a CD and boot from it. Note you have to run it a long time (>8 hours) to test thoroughly.
Kevin: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... id=4122#sp. His RAM should be compatible, it's dual channel and I'm guessing the speed isn't over 2,000.

Re: MXS Twitter
Well, after I thought about my comment for a couple of seconds it wouldn't work at all if it wasn't a supported type. What I meant was size, as in it only supports 12GB or so. It clearly states up to 32GB so my comment is done. If you've reseated the card's then I wouldn't rule them out but they are definitely lower on the list of what could be wrong.
Re: MXS Twitter
32gb max for my mb. I have done #1 but not the driver sweeper step, and I'm pretty sure I have everything there is to install for everything + updates. I don't have any different PCI-E cables to my GPU unless I just swap the two. I don't have another graphics card either to try but I could try and putting my card down one socket. Thanks for the help!
Re: MXS Twitter
I had a blank monitor issue as well. Try some trouble shooting with you ram..like if the serials fit the compatibility with the mobo. Try one stick instead of both/different slots as well.. If it isn't your ram and GFX card is fine then take a look at how your CPU is seated. Sometimes the tiny prongs that the CPU sit on get bent and can cause various problems. My issue was that a prong bent when I closed the latch down on the CPU, something that I had no control over or could not fix...just a really tight fit and it fucked it up. Not sure if it was the whole problem but I replaced my ram and pre bent motherboard and it was good to go.

Just saw a commercial for American Idol.
What in the effing what gives Nicki Manaj any creditably to be a judge?
Show is such a joke.
