Mountain bike problem
Having some problems adjusting the brakes. Tried playing with the cables, and adjusted the pads. I'm trying to get them more sensative, so I can do endos, and slide around corners etc. Any help is appreciated.

Disc brakes. And no, my dad knows nothing about mechanics or anything, I tried to figure it out for myself but nothing worked. So I posted here.

A bigger disc? I'm not real sure what can make them more sensitive other than softer pads or just simply grabbing it harder. Maybe you're locking the tire and don't know it?mxer223 wrote:Disc brakes. OK, so, when you ask a question like this. make sure you know the brand and style. If they are exactly the same as the video they would be mechanical avid's. However i doubt that they are identical.
1st off, you dont really want you brakes super touchy. because then you can modulate a bit better and if you panic, you wont die.
2nd, If they dont come grabby enough brand new, they will wear in a little bit which helps. ( that takes about 10 hours of riding) After that they dont get grippier. If you mess with them from stock, they will get worse.
So, i would reccomend just ride the bike until they wear in or just grab harder.
If they are quite used. look up the brand and style on google. you will find exact instructions.
1st order of buisness for you, figure out the style of your brakes. i.e. the model name.

Re: Mountain bike problem
So they are mechanical disk brakes? take your rotors off, and your pads. if your pads are worn, replace them, and then boil both the pads AND the rotor in water, and then let the water cool back down to room temperature with the pads and rotors still in there. if that doesent work, buy new cables. Im guessing they are either AVID's, or Hayes. I had the same problem with mine, and this works for me everytime. What it is, is when your lubing your chain, you are overspraying onto your disc, which saturates the pads and disc. when you boil them, all of that comes off. Hope this helps. Also, your dad doesent know anything about mechanics? thats pretty sad man. My dad knows EVERYTHING! he is a better mechanic than most of the Motorcycle mechanincs in my area, and he works on everything from diesel trucks, to chainsaw motors. I guess Im lucky, because all of that funnels into my head, and I learn off it.

Re: Mountain bike problem
I have Avid Codes, and whenever my pads get saturated in oil, I just boil them in water. Although, they are hydraulic. When I had my Specialized p1, I had avid mechanicals on there (cant remember which model they were), but they did that once and a while and I just boiled the pads and disc and all of the oil that had saturated the pads and disc got boiled out of them. Id recomend doing that first, and if it still doesent work, adjust your pads.kona309 wrote:Me thinks that this guy has no idea what he's got.
