YZ250 Transmission problems
Ok so for a month or so, my YZ250 had a lot of problems moving between 2nd and 3rd gear, It would hit a false neutral a lot. I dealt with it and didn't think a lot of it. Then the weekend just gone I had my first State round and in practice I didn't notice a lot of difference, a few neutrals but that was normal at this stage. The first moto rolled around and off the gate I went for 3rd gear and hit a false neutral for a change. Within the first few corners it happened another couple of times. Then after about a quarter of a lap it started changing gears by itself. Like you would be holding it on and it was slip up or down gears out of nowhere to the point where I had to pull in. I was just wondering if anyone else has had these sorts of problems and what the fix turned out to be.

Re: YZ250 Transmission problems
YZ250s were known for their third gear. It sounds like either you have a bent shifting fork, or your shifting mechanism is broken. It could just be loose or it could be fragmented, causing it to hang up in between gears. Hopefully it is one of these two, or it sounds like you're splitting the cases!

Yeah I really don't wanna split the motor haha. Praying for a somewhat easy fix.

Just split the cases, you'll need to pay a little more but then you can be quite sure whats wrong, and whats even more important you can prevent any more damage which would be even more expensive.

Haha you're a tool. Hutchy sorted it. I can't really remember what he said. Somewhere along the lines of one of the selectors wore out and seized and was only half selecting gears so they would fall in and out. And a heap of the dog gears were rooted. Won't be ready in time for sunday though
was going to ride the support class at the nats.

Hm. This is interesting. I have some issues not being able to get the next gear sometimes on mine. Can't remember if if it's third or fourth I have issues with. I think it might be both intermittently. May have to split it and look into that.

Re: YZ250 Transmission problems
Yeah if you got someone that can do it. Split it and have a look. A selector could be bent or worn out. Dunno what bike you have but my mechanic did some research and what happened on my bike is notorious with yz250s.

I'll probably split it myself. It's a 2006 YZ250.

Re: YZ250 Transmission problems
Nope. I always keep one finger on the clutch, so basically never shift without it. Not sure about previous owner though.
