Disappointment

Nah, I'm way too skilled for that. Besides, we're two hours from the nearest hospital, so we can't afford to have things go wrong. That probably goes a long way to explaining why a 2" cut is my worst dirtbike-related injury.

I wish I'd gotten some of the battles between my dad and I that day recorded. Those Huskies really have a lot of get up and go in them when you get serious - and they're relaxingly mellow and stable when you want to take things easy. I was starting to dislike this bike after all the personality of the 120, but I've come to really appreciate its performance after this last ride.

What happened is, the inner tube literally got ripped right off the rim-lock over the course of riding, and the tire went totally 100% flat in the time it took to open and close the gate. It's done that kind of thing before - we think there's some characteristic of the rim itself that is doing this. His 390, which has a lot more "tube-ripping" power has been flawless for 20 years.

maybe check the spokes and make sure they're tight. if they are maybe the rim lock its self isnt working correctly. or maybe the rim has just gotten weak (wich i have a problem with on my pit bike).

Checking the spokes is a good idea. We think the main problem is a redesign of the Husky 17" rim. In the older bikes, they had these little protrusions that would grab the rubber of the tube and hold it in place. It was pretty scary when you were putting the tire in, because there was always the fear of tearing it. When riding, though, it has quite a good record. My rim doesn't have this, so we think that's at least part of the problem. It also doesn't help that I was riding it pretty hard earlier that day. We have a spare tube though, so it's just a matter of throwing it in.

On a different note, my gas cap has decided not to work! I took it off in the garage to check if I still had gas in it (I do, thanks to the aborted ride) and when I went to put the thing back on, it only went a 1/32 twist. It goes on easily when you take out the rubber seal, which leads me to believe that the seal is somehow the problem. It's a very good, expensive billet-aluminum cap so I'd hate to have to replace it. Ideas? The last thing I want is gas eating away at the new paint. (Paint, by the way, is a liquid substance that is applied to metal gas tanks to give them color. I hear that plastic users have to settle with stickers instead. )
