Strange PC/TV/Comcast Question

Hey,

Wondering if anyone has any input on this, I turned my computer off a few days ago and headed down to South Carolina for a few days, when I got back I went to turn my computer on and it wouldn't even go to BIOS, so I decided to try something different and use my integrated graphics, at which point the computer ran, but the fan was running as fast as possible. So I turned the computer back off, took out my GPU because it was shot anyways, fired the computer back up with the GPU out, still using my integrated graphics, and now my fan runs normally, and the computer works like it should. Seems like my GPU got cooked?

Now, I went to go watch TV on my 2nd monitor (i use my 2nd monitor for TV, first for PC only) and nothing happens. Go to reset my cable box, and nothing happens. Starting to think something's weird at this point... I then tried to use my integrated graphics card on my tv, just to see if it will receive any signal, again, doesn't work, although the TV does recognize that there is something trying to send it a signal. At this point, I'm thinking i got hit with a power surge while I was gone? Sound somewhat reasonable? Also, any input on how to test my GPU, or have I already pretty well figured out it's done? I'm leaning towards I have a few shot cables, and a shot GPU? Any input?

That would be my guess. Is this on a surge protector in an outlet that is properly grounded?

No surge protector but is on a ground fault to my knowledge, just moved in not long ago, but pretty confident.

From a quick google ground fault does not protect from surges just shorts to ground (it monitors to make sure all voltage that leaves on the hot wire comes back on the neutral). Its for personal protection not equipment protection.

I highly recommend a surge protector for your expensive electronics. The manufactures offer a warranty for the equipment connected beyond the surge protector and will pay you if your equipment is damaged behind one.
