New Race Organizing "Startup" - Help Me Pick a Name

Post by Sweendoggy »

Hey All,

It isn't that I'm completely done with rF, but I definitely am not in the same role I once was in 2012 (and before rF, when I was hosting lots of races through the forums). Unfortunately starting towards the end of 2012, and ramped up from there (Fall 12' = Senior Project Start, Spring 13' = Senior Project End, Summer 13' = Intern at world class robotics company, Winter 14' = Hired at world class robotics company and became a "go-to engineer" at the company, which keeps me more than busy during the week), my real life schedule got gnarly and made it difficult to work with the other rF members, schedule wise. It got to a point where I think they needed to start making decisions and moving forward without me, which is understandable. Now, in 2015, it has gotten to the point where I have pretty much been completely phased out of rF (and can't help with much of the work, as the website has evolved too far, and I have no idea how it works anymore). I'm still friends with those guys and throw my 2 cents in, but hey let's face it, if my schedule doesn't work with the rF schedule, I really shouldn't be making the decisions that other people have to act on. If my schedule relaxes (unlikely in the forseeable furture), I will likely become more involved in rF again, because the replica racing stuff is really cool.

That being said, I miss running the show, and REALLY I miss making quick decisions and acting on them... Like "This is how this event will go" then posting the event up 10 minutes later. That is what made hosting races fun for me. That is why I'm going to attempt to branch out and create a new race organizing website, and keep it to myself, and make it only work around my schedule. This ultimately will likely mean weekend races, or late-night (west coast time) weekday races. It will take me a while to get things set up, and I may need to get some of my own servers set-up since rF is still the priority and needs JLVs servers, so I can't really speculate on a timeline yet, OR I may simply give up at some point....

I will be asking for help from the community from time to time (no obligation obviously, and you will literally get nothing in return), so help if you want, don't help if you don't. I will admit I am not the "artistic" type, and am horrible with logos and coming up with good names...

The first step for me is to create a name for this project, so I can secure a website domain, and set up some social media to start sending out my progress as I build this up (or attempt to). This is where I would like some help... Many of the names I have come up with so far are super cheesy, and I'd like to get something more concrete. Once I find a name I'll likely do a Logo contest or pay someone to make me a sweet logo (JVDL is my go-to guy still 8) )

If you are willing to help, please comment below with any name ideas you may have! Here are some I've though of (that I don't really like that much...)

Didn't you used to run the MXSC before rF?

A week doesn't ever go by without someone yelling in chat, "SWEEN, I'M IN WARMUP."

And only way I show up to your events is if you release at least 5 Sweenervision videos a year.

For servers, I'd talk to Sammy Holt. He's got a solid lineup.

So does this mean I need to start my "rF President Campaign"

Yeah, and I probably shouldn't worry too much about the name, it will be pretty relaxed and low-key compared to rF. Mostly custom tracks too. I want a cool logo though, and none of those names will make a cool logo IMO

Haha, only from the OG's! I get online to play now and get punked by the newbies like some punk bitch.

I'll have a fancy laptop soon to record and edit videos with on the train I ride 3 hours a day....so this seems likely :)

My hope would be to have dedicated servers, that I can speak to directly from my website server...IDK how expensive that ends up being though.

Baha, the way I see it, Wheels is the pres, because he is the one who does the work to make things actually happen. I still am die hard rF at heart, but as mentioned above, my schedule sucks for the majority of participants and fellow hosts. You are critical for keeping things at a high quality level though so I'd vote for ya

I would really like to see a series where the extended falloff is utilized.
