I think it would work and here is why. The creators can have the work done prior to full funding. They can give it to whomever they feel they trust to beta and work out all the kinks. Once its finished no one would get it until their funding goal has been reached. Once it is , why not release everything. Obj, PSD and bike. What is the point of ripping anything if it's all out there. Sure there would be a limited amount of people who contribute, (I would) but if lets say the creators wanted $1000 for a model, u get 500 people in the community to pitch in $2 each and there ya go. even if only 100 guys payed, thats still only $10 a person. Very reasonable imo. For those that dont pay in, oh well, thats on them. I hope they would feel guilty as hell anyways. I personally wouldn't care though if some joker waits till the goal is met and the bike is released, to DL it. Especially if I kicked in just $10 or w/e. As long as I have it, I don't mind paying for it and someone else getting it as well as long as it doesn't turn into a complete charity.
I see a problem with this anyway. As attacker5 stated in an other thread if the project gets founded and the creator gets the money from Kickstarter as long as it it considered to be a donation I dont see a problem with Copyrights.
Now keep in mind there is still the option that a project does not get founded. How would you feel then ? You spend money but did not get anything for it. This could happen when guys who have beta version rip/ publish the work. (happend to Andy Hack by accident)
Also if you could life with the fact that you payed for a model that almost everybody else got for free, well then its all good. I could not. Maybe I am too mean/cheap but I would not pay for user based content. Especially not in this communtiy because I even got the best possibilitys to get my own model into this game, not as Battlefield for example.
Tennis, Basketball and Baseball all requires one ball
Motocross requires two!

Well I would keep it in the community, paypal donations the donations get to a certain amount then released. I still like the idea of a Site that is pay to access. Also everything can be tracked to a IP and user account. You can charge to access of the site, Game Hackers do it with there cheats. Why can't we do it for content.
It would make a tight community everybody running same content, able to make packs out with tracks, teams skins, make MX sim like a MMO choose server you want. Also with the main game like a MMO style system, server access and content will be only approved skins and models through the game. Game content changes monthly with patches and such.
JLV maybe you should submit The game and concept on Kickstarter as a MMO style game. I would pay $20 a month for it, Also creators get discounts on monthly services. Money goes to servers, website, and future game development.

Great to hear someone is in on the plan! Thank you, and I fully agree with your logic!

Sounds too much like XBL and sounds like it would be more work for JLV which I dont think he needs. I would rather he just continue to work on game updates and let the "parents" (creators) and the "kiddies" ( a lot of the community) work it out themselves. The $ amounts I threw out there were just as an example. I'm not a modeler so IDK what a fair "price " would be, but the way I see it, they're doing it for free now so $500 or $1000, w/e is better than what they are getting now. I can't speak for them but if I were doing models, got paid to do it as to where I was doing it for free prior, I would have no issue releasing the complete model when the $ goal was reached so people could have a PSD, obj etc etc.. They do that now but when they fell like it, which if they are doing shit for free it's fair that they release it to whomever, whenever they want. I just think if they can't get the proper respect they are due, they should at least be compensated monetarily for it. But right now a lot of people expect they stuff as if they did pay for it. Well, let us pay for it and then get it. Win win for everyone I think. It's just a matter of eliminating the "need", ( and I use that for lack of a better word) to rip. If the creators get paid, and release it all, then who "needs" to rip anything. Just seems like an easier solution rather than trying to develop an encryption to protect stuff, which would most likely be a matter of time before someone cracked that. Just make everyone happy, pay them and we can get it.

That's were gaming is going, I have been in the industry for years. PC multiplayer first person shooters, people don't play like they do on XBL. The hacking/cheating is not nearly as bad as PC community. why you think games are going MMO style pay to play. Files are protected yes there is still hacking and cheating. But not as bad as Call of Duty like games. I have no problem paying for good content as long as I don't feel like I am getting ripped off. Game companies are sticking it the consumer with this DLC shit, and a lot of it is shit. MX Sim worth 59.99 and a patch once a year for new bikes and gear. $10-$20 for a update patch every year. Hell Yea I would totally pay that.
JLV can always hire people and pay them. That would free him up and not have to babysit as much.

I know creators now only want to release a few things. But I personally would only pay for model through any type of crowdsourcing if they released everything. PSd,JMs,.obj, and some starter skins or something. I wouldn't use any of these because I don't like skinning in sim, but I think if people were paying 500+ for a model then I would expect totally full open releases.
