yeah I could Use your help because I know you will be able to spot problems on the bike

Re: 2011 Yamaha YZ250 2-Stroke
I started unwrapping the bike but the plastics had so many hidden faces / verts it was way too time consuming, i had to delete half of the shroud at one point to make sure all of the faces were welded together. Also is the seat now attached to the rest of the plastics?, it would be so much better if it was.HAMMERDOWN wrote:yeah I could Use your help because I know you will be able to spot problems on the bike

I was not aware of the hidden faces threw out the bike when I gave it to you but now I learned where they were and I am trying to find some if they are hidding. The bike I am doing now is basically the same one just Iam looking for all the flaws in it and fixing it

No I released the bike to every one but it had so many flaws in it that Iam reworking it for a better release

Ok,
I am going to give my 2 cents on this whole join the plastics thing. the question is this, is it better to join the plastics to the seat and have it all as one merged mesh?
Well, there are positives and negatives to both methods.
Merging:
- Good because the UVs align easily.
- Good because plastics flow nicely, like in real life.
- Bad because normal maps have a hard time working with one big smoothing group.
- Bad because it makes plastic coloring more difficult in photoshop.
Separate:
- I mean separate as in like it would be in real life, not separate regardless of the model.
- Good because it allows for a realistic look.
- Good because Normal Maps work quite well since parts are smaller.
- Good because coloring plastics is easier.
- Plastics are more difficult to make have a good flow, but not impossible.
- UVs are more difficult to align, not a problem to skin if you have the model.
Overall I feel that the separate option is better as it gives more positives, however, more care needs to be taken when modeling like this, since it is easy to have wierd collisions and back faces if done incorrectly. Not all people will agree, but personally, this is my chosen way.
Of course all this depends on the model and the modeler.

For the negative point about the seat normal, i would just give the seat its own smoothing group and seperate the mesh for the bake. Also you forgot to mention that having the seat uv attached takes up far less space than it does seperate while still keeping a decent size.attacker5 wrote:Ok,

Stevo:
I am not sure how it works with have separate smoothing groups just for the bake, because as far as I am aware, the bake compensates for the shading issues, meaning if they arnt there when the map is baked, the bake will look smooth, but then once in game when its all one smoothing group, and the shading is different, it wont compensate correctly. Well atleast this is as far as i know, however I have also noticed that bakes dont show up the same in mxs as in xnormal preview, sooo, im not completely sure what the deal is. Help would be sweet.
