obviously you know im not fucking genius in the erode system. But when you change your erode setting like to .2. or .3 in the properties bar. For example, this stuff "C:\Program Files (x86)\MX Simulator\mx-2012-06-22.exe" --erode .4

i dont know how this works or what its called, but if im able to change the erode system by using simple numbers. It works for me. Hopefully this clears something up.

That would be the multiplier. The values in the tileinfo file define the erode characteristics which should differ depending on the soil to get the most realistic erosion.

Around 0.5 multiplier seems to work nicely for me.

I like 0.5 too, but I still hate the subtle yet persistent feeling of my rear wheel dragging while "creating" the rut, it feels exaggerated and it makes for some awkward scenarios.

The settings you suggested would be good for sand I feel. The ones I just tried would be good for hard pack, as they need to be developed slowly to feel good.

To play with the environment variables, make a bat file in the same location as the mx.exe file. Make this its contents:

Code: Select all

set MX_ERODE_LOWER=100
set MX_ERODE_UPPER=200
set MX_ERODE_DISPLACEMENT=4
set MX_ERODE_RADIUS=4
set MX_ERODE_MAX_SLOPE=0.5
mx.exe --editor --erode 0.15
Is there any way to make it dig the ground a bit faster? I do like 10 laps before it only just starts to show.

They aren't used anymore, look at page 8.

Turn up the --erode 0.15 to --erode 1.0 or something

When i go into a track it keeps coming up with: tileinfo warning: Unknown identifier 'erode_depth'
tileinfo warning: Unknown identifier 'erode_lower'
ect.. ?

Pretty cool JLV.
The stock setting make a mess of the track with 10 or so AI.
None the less it adds a whole new element to the game. Can't wait for future enhancements.
Nice job!

I have the download on page 8 but have no erode taking place. In the target i have --erode 1.0. I tried to replace it like a snapshot but when i open my game it says cant find game data? Do i keep both and run the erode from mx 6/6/12 or mx 7/1/12?

Would it be possible to calculate the erode_displacement from depth, radius and max slope? What I'm wondering is that if you put small values to depth, radius and slope, as in creating a shallow erosion, you would still be able to displace great amount of dirt from that shallow groove by defining erode_displacement to 10.0 or more. And vice versa.

By calculating the displacement the erosion wouldn't create soil from thin air.

Is my thinking completely wrong here?

Displacement controls the distance the soil is moved. It always removes and adds the same amount so there shouldn't be a net increase or decrease in the overall level.
