***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
Oh man, for some reason i thought you just wanted to make an ao map from the normal map in photoshop. Haha, sorry that i was no help at all.
Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
The normal map isn't likely to be enough since normals only give direction, not height. If you have a displacement map it should be possible.giopanda wrote:thanx timferry but that's not what i'm looking for.
what i need to do is baking an ambient occlusion map of the mesh and the normal map together..damn i can't find it anywhere..
Set the model up in blender and do a bake render for ambient occlusion. You might have to subdivide the model a lot to get good results from the displacement map.

Whats wrong here?
I tryed to uv map my fender (cause i want to see it skinned lol i know stupid.)
But somehow the uv map is...like... well you see its roundy and goest not straigth like the fender seems to go? its like bendet?
How can i fix/get rid of this bending, i tryed to normal the uv map and result was good untill i noticed its too liner from above so the edges are hidden.

You might've done the unwrap (unfold?) from camera option. And the camera wasn't straight on with the fender.

Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
I just did my first helmet skin, and it looked great in game. I then attempted to do a displacement map with it to make it metallic speckle looking in some areas. It did not come out as planned.
Can someone give me some direction on what a displacement map is and how to do it correctly? I really want my helmet to stand out. Thanks guys.

Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
To make the little metallic "flakes", i would suggest making a specular map. I don't really know if you could get it looking very good, but i think that would be better than a disp map. On the specular map, make little 1 pixel speckles, and make them either dark or light depending on what kind of look you want. Again, i don't really know how good this will come out, but this would be what i would do if i wanted to try the same thing.

Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
That is what i meant to say..... a speeecular map. haha.... my mind was in the clouds. So how are layers supposed to look for a correct spec map? What do light and dark colors do, and where do they go in relation to logos, etc on normal map?
Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
This could be for many reasons your Computer might not beable to handle the files or you might be putting the files in your personal folder wrong...Luckylukes wrote:Ok i Have the full game of mx simulator. so delete the things that arent working from the personal folder then re download them and extract them back into your personal folder and they should work...you also will need the updated bike models from here

Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
Okay.... I am ready to take the step into creating some fine gear for the community. I just have a few questions for the avid gear makers already here:
What maps are available for use by this game engine? (Displacement, Normal, Specular, Bump, Ambient Occlusion?) And which do you always use?
Also, I recently skinned a helmet using the V3 template, and also did a Specular map to make the logos on the helmet glittery. However, it did not look that way in game. I saved the file with the same name a the texture.png file, but added "_spec.png". I then SAF'd them and loaded them in game. Helmet looks great, but I don't know if spec map is even being read. How do you, or would you, save these maps to have them read? (i.e. - myskin.png, myskin_norm.png, myskin_spec.png?)
Thank you for all of your help.
Very respectfully,
Smokecheck #291

Just normal and specular.Smokecheck wrote:What maps are available for use by this game engine? (Displacement, Normal, Specular, Bump, Ambient Occlusion?) And which do you always use?
Those are the right names, but to make a glittery look you should put noise in the normal map. You want the normals to point in all different directions since the glitter reflects in essentially random directions. Also, I recently skinned a helmet using the V3 template, and also did a Specular map to make the logos on the helmet glittery. Re: ***MODELS and SKINS HELP/QUESTION THREAD***
ok. i am in a delema with the 2010 RMZ 250. I used the stock wheels to scale the bike properly, but when I put it into the game, eskwaads rear wheel is further back. So I used the ones that DDMX gave me and now those have a tighter wheel base than the stock wheels. Does anybody have a set of wheels (.obj form) that I can use to properly align my swing arm, chain, and rear brake to?
And for a second question, I have the bike in game, and it seems as tho the front numbers apply to every face, and my rear numberplates just hold 1 giant number. How can I get the number plate faces to line up so your number will be shown?
Thanks for all your help,
iceman
