Respawning would actually be much easier, but I'm completely against the idea. When something just magically appears like that it just screams "VIDEO GAME!!!". Suspension of disbelief will not cover for that.
Another issue I haven't mentioned is I don't want to have to dodge twice as much stuff when someone falls in front of me...

Do the rider's feet have collision/ground detection? If so, would it be possible to keep the rider within a "bubble" near the bike, but not on the bike during crashes and allow him to get up and go to his bike?
Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
I think once the update of the riding punting you is punished equally/ more than the one getting hit it will solve alot of problems yous guys are thinking.
Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
yeah I think the holding on the bars idea would be awesome if you implement's a certain amount of force makes you come off the bike (ie: coming up short on a triple) would be sweet to see him come up short and then his legs bounce up but hes still holding onto the bars but I like what checkerz is saying about for real crashes making him come off but making him stay close fairly close to the bike. The picking the bike up white putting his legs back on is a great idea too, But I do know this all takes time and this is just the start to something great. This is still a huge step forward, maybe a little false advertising in screen shots though hahaha.

I think it would be awesome when you cased triples if his legs bounced up,then if it didn't send you flying and you could still ride away his legs come back on.I'm not sure how easy or hard that would be,but I think it would be extremely awesome.
Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
JLV i know you will come up with a great sollution to this that will probbly be ground breaking ...but from whats in front of me I dont see a sallution....Like Checkers said maybe a bubble that keeeps the rider close to the bike close as in a reasonable distance from the bike when you stop ragdolling...another option i was thinking but involves a degree of respawning is...If your along ways from your bike after you crash you respawn maybe 50 feet from your bike then go pick it up....idk just throwing stuff out therejlv wrote:Respawning would actually be much easier, but I'm completely against the idea. Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
I love this snapshot. reminds me of a few years ago when austin stroupe got cross rutted at lorettas and his legs went flying as he tried to hold on for dear life. but someday I really hope that the rider totally falls off and has to run back to the bike. i think it would get really annoying to dodge the riders but maybe when the rider has fallen off the collisions could be disabled untill he got back on. to do this there would have to be some kind of animation. but i think alot of people get turned off to the game when they see that hes always stuck on there, it could totally take the game to a new level.

Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
Everything looks liek it is done with springs anyway so just put a weak spring that connects the rider's center of mass to the bike. This will limit how far he can go (by applying bigger forces at bigger distances) but when falling off the bike (near the bike) wont do squat because of low forces, so it will still look real. Then the dude can ragdoll all over the place but still be kept near by. Then just put driving forces on the springs for the legs that make it look like he is crawling back to the bike and bam, realistic. Sounds so simple right?

Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
The driving forces could be tied into groundspeed too and that would ensure proper looking crawling.

Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
if this is about total realism, I think having the rider hold on to the bike in all situations is farther from real than having him actually come off the bike, because at least the falling would be real then.
to reach ultimate realism you would have to make the rider come off the bike and make him run back, however the amount of time that would take would be insane. And seeing as noone can ride as consistent in MXS as in real life (it's just not possible (yet)) losing half a minute per crash takes a long time.
as for the dodging 2 "objects" isn't that the way it is in real life?
I think there has to be drawn a line as far as realism goes because some things taken out of real life and put into MXS would not make it more enjoyable to play.
don't get me wrong I like the new update and the only times i have a bit of a problem with is when you're cartwheeling and the rider keeps holding on, the rest is awesome.
but if you ever decide to make the rider come off the bike it will make my day
.
maybe make the rider come off and after the crash he is lying like 20 meters away you can show him getting up starts running to the bike then fade to black and after a second or so fade back in and hes near the bike ready to jump on. it wouldn't create the whole teleportation feeling while still keeping the time it takes to get back going to a minimum.

WINDOWS 7 FTW lol you know how to make the taskbar smaller like vista right? (if you even care)
Re: 2010-06-02 snapshot
well, jlv if you want the most realism from this then i say you add when you over jump the guy falls and a bail button, if you know that your going to crash then you press the button and it saves you some time(hard to explane) like when your........lets take villopotos crash in the sx series as an example if he wouldn't jump of the bike. then that crash would have been PAINFULL!!

It was, probably extrememly bad, but if he wouldn't of bailed he would've landed on his chest/head so, would you pick to break your leg or ribs/collarbone?

Well, last time i checked, this is a video game? (A damn good one at that)jlv wrote:Respawning would actually be much easier, but I'm completely against the idea. I don't think its worth the time to struggle with figuring out how to "realistically" remount the bike.
You have to pick your battles, and this one is not worth fighting.
RESPAWN FTW!!! Then move on to Bike sounds......
