Hurricane Irene

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Hurricane Irene

Post by Voutare »

Hey, so I'm sure all of you know that the Hurricane just went through the northeast, and I'm wondering how the rest of you are doing. I know there is a couple people around in New Jersey area, Virginia, plus the New England people.

My whole town is flooded out and a disaster. My house is the last house from the flooding so nothing bad happened here. I'm about to go run into town and help out with some elderly peoples homes, but overall this is a huge disaster. There's 3 or 4 bridges that collapsed and roads that got washed out all around where I live, so I really can't even leave to go anywhere.

I've got some pretty crazy pictures of my town and the surrounding areas also:
Image
I drove on this bridge every day to go to work.

Right by my old High School

Same area, flooded everywhere.

Road leading up to a few friends houses
Image
Same Bridge as the first picture. I couldn't get to this side though, this was from the local paper, or a contributor.

Killington VT. Route 4 is gone.

Same road, different area.

Bennington VT, about 45 minutes south.

I'd be nice if the news would actually cover this, instead of talking about how NYC's subways are going to be running a little late. Who the fuck cares. So far, the only people who have been able to do anything are locals, no outside help or anything. We've had covered bridges falling, there's videos on youtube of the Bartonville one going down. Parts of history. I just hope the rest of you in the area are okay. So far there's two people missing in our area, and another just north of here.

Holy shit balls. Vermont got messed up! I'd expect that though because Vermont is pretty much a valley.

Here's a bunch of pictures of hurricane Irene's aftermath on the Jersey Shore. Just mainly flooding.

My uncles ex-wifes family all drowned. Her son and husband. They got washed away from the water treatment plant while trying to make the dam not break.

Dang guys. Sorry about your loss Voutare.

I got extremely lucky and didn't have any damage at all here in VA. I was without power for two days (Just came on about 30 minutes ago.) and I'm tired of fans blowing me in the face. Ended up being 80 in here and we had to sleep downstairs just go it was 77. (Big defference, ehh?) But we had a generator, so I could atleast get cold in the freezer.

I feel so sorry for you guys.
I guess I live in a lucky place or something because we never had anything down here, no hurricanes, no tornados, no earthquakes. Its scary enough to think about it.

I'm going to need one of those damn 4 track military crawlers they use in the Antarctic. Haha.

I just drove around a little while ago, and everything is looking better. There is a few low lying areas that got hit real hard, but most of the water has receeded and the major damage is nearly all on roads. As far as I know, in Southern/Central Vermont there was at least 8 deaths. Whole neighborhoods are in standing water in some places. Drove past a whole area that had water up to their windows. Pretty heartbreaking. I'd never expect anything like this happen here either. I mean, I've always said that this place is safe compared to the rest of the world/country. The most we have to deal with is snowstorms and blizzards, and even that goes away without serious damage.

Unfortunatelly I have to confess that I'm not really surprised with the aftermaths. It is usual to see some of these natural disasters every year in Brazil, mostly in the middle of the summer.

It is sad to be always facing with this kind of situation and see some families loosing every single thing they have, e.g. back one year at São Luiz do Paraitinga, an historic city from colonial times (first pic).

Idk, all the human being has some responsibility for such disasters, but anyways, lets keep praying and believing in a better future...

Man, those roads got torn up.

When we had Hurricane Ike 3 years ago, we just lost power for like 2 weeks, but nothing really got torn up.

Hopefully everyone is as safe as they can be.
