Gap

Post by Sweendoggy »

So this may be because I usually approach racing very "methodically" and not just raw pin it theory...

BUT

I think it would help avoid SOME incidents if we knew how far back the rider behind us was....

Things it would help
  • While being lapped, riders would not longer be worried about someone sneaking by
Riders (esp 1st person) would have some sort of an idea that someone was catching them for a while and trying to put a pass on in the coming corners
being able to ride more calmly...
knowing how much of a gap there is when you crash, so maybe you aren't rushing so badly to get back to the track, potentially taking others out...
Might even the playing field a little bit, for the guys trying to jack with your race from behind you...
The downside is it would def. allow for brake checking, and blocking of lines, riding side to side, etc etc....

What do you guys think?

Wont help at all. People will still ride like dipshits. You will never fix that.

Its a video game, people don't care about the consequences of their shitty racing skills.

Awesome idea, brake checks would make for better racing.

I definitly think this would help alot at times. I try and be nice to a faster rider coming up to pass me and get out of the fast line. But in this game you dont always know when someone is coming up. Definitly need something to simulate the sense of somebody being behind you.

Good idea, and i dont think the downsides are that great. Currently you can listen and if you here a bike you might start riding protective lines or side to side if your a goon.

Definately need to work out a way for 1st person riders to be able to see what's going on around them better.

It's be nice if it would show what side of true track the rider is on. I always wind up goin to the side the rider that's lapping me is on and so then I accidentally take them out.

You mean just change the gap on the pitboard from "gap ahead or behind if leading" to "gap to nearest" right?

Didn't you say during 2011 SX that you were going to improve the pitboard and add customization into it?

Not sure if gap to nearest will work as sometimes I get confused weather +1.0 is to the guy behind me or ahead of me. At least now I know unless I am leading that it's to the guy ahead of me. :)

I'm not sure how well it would work, just because it only updates periodically. I was leading last night and went down, and about 4 turns later, my gap dropped from +30 seconds to +15.

I've had it too, with really fast leaders, where by the time the blue flag comes out they're already right on me. I was thinking if we had a real-time indicator like an arrow that fades from transparent to opaque as a rider comes up on you, it could be more useful.

To get what sween was saying from it, you could do blue arrow at the bottom of the screen for riders lapping you and red arrow for riders racing you for position. I don't know what proximity would be most practical, but something like no arrow @ 100 feet to full arrow @ 10 feet or something would give you an idea that you're going to need to pull off pretty soon.

I'd love that... but what about an arrow like in most racing games?? I think it would be extremely useful and would help for good safe racing (although I'm afraid of brake checks and rough deffensive moves

I usually hear from which side rider is going to pass me. Dunno, I can see pretty clearly from the pit board where is the guy behind me, plus the sound and things like that.
