Square strokes in Photoshop
Hey there,
i have a question about a special photoshop function. I am pretty much used to photoshop but is there a function (except the pen tool
) to make strokes with edges ? I searched the web but just found the solution to convert my selection into a shape. Therefore ps can make a stroke with edges. The problem of this method is I have to scale the shape again. Sometimes the shape is connected to other stuff which does not fit after using this simple method. I hope the question is understandeble. Thank you for your respond.

im not honestly sure i know what you are talking about... but you can edit your brush with the brush toolbox and change a ton of settings in that.

Ok here is the situation:

I used the shape tool in photoshop cs 6. I just want to know if there is the possibility to create the left pic using a selection instead of a shape.

Thats weird I never noticed that before. I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do but I found that you can get square edges by applying a stroke as a layer style and selecting inside for the position (it will come into the shape instead of outside of it). So if you are using the pen tool just fill your shape on a new layer and then apply a inside stroke. The downside is that inside corners are now rounded but the outside corners and sharp. It seems like there is no way to avoid it, I even tried selecting the filled portion and then expanding it and contracting it and either way you get rounded corners.

I am trying to make skins for Villamotos latest KTM with the most detail i can get. Therefore i want the logos to be perfect. For instants there is a "Teka" logo. I got the normal logo from a website. But this logo is not the same as it is on the replica skin. I just got the word "teka" in the right font but the white stroke is missing. So i would like to apply a stroke at the outside of this word.SMR 510RR wrote:I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do

Re: Square strokes in Photoshop
Usually I just apply the stroke, then create a layer underneath my stroked layer and use the pen tool to make shapes to sharpen/square up the corners. I don't know of a plugin that makes it automatic, this method is easier than searching for a plugin.

Re: Square strokes in Photoshop
Have you tried just creating a solid square and define that as a brush, then use it to stroke?

Just tried it and it doesn't really work. It's closer but for some reason it still doesn't have square corners.

Re: Square strokes in Photoshop
Inside stroke i do believe would fix that, or just make a square shape behind it.. Few ways to do it.

Re: Square strokes in Photoshop
well i aggree with you mikey but the square shape above is just an example. How would you make it if you use a text and dont want to loose the scale of the font.
this is what i mean by "scale" :
The word Teka as it is as i downloaded it:

Teka with a stroke, position is set to inside: (the stroke now has these square edges but the actual scale of the word Teka is different. In addition to this selecting the position to inside does not work with angles over 180° very well.

Teka as it should be ( I applied the normal stroke and added the edges with the pen tool)

thanks for your respond

In Inkscape there's a path function called "outset" that does what you want.
