Just got Arma2 just for DayZ, after dieing twice I finally found a gun, still crapping my pants everytime I hear a zombie, haha.
If anyone wants to group up or anything lmk!

I'm in. I have ARMA2 but haven't gotten DayZ yet. Which way did you install it? The downloader thing? I have it through steam, IDK if that matters...??

Make sure you have Arma2: Operation Arrowhead as well, you need both for DayZ. As for how I downloaded it I just chose to do it manually which isn't hard at all. I found this link helpful: http://kodabar.blogspot.com/2012/05/how ... -free.html It explains it better than I can and from what I've gathered downloading from steam is the preferred method.

Phat, I'd suggest you get the Arma 2 Launcher, otherwise you'll have a nice headache installing the beta patches in steam.

Add this in your launch options

-cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -maxMem=2048 -world=Chernarus -nosplash

-cpuCount=#
# of cores your computer has

-exThreads=#
Google how many threads your CPU is running on

-maxMem=2048
Most RAM Arma2 can run on is 2 Gigs

-world=Chernarus
Lowers load time because it preloads the base map

-nosplash
Gets rid of splash menu for faster game start

Max ram for Arma2 is 2047 actually. But wont hurt to be set higher.

The beta patches are just .exe files. Download, run once, done. but only if you are running it on the arma 2 launcher, for steam there's a shitload of things to do.

If you do buy the DLC for ARMA 2 it gives you better looking character models and such.

Anyways, i wanna use the Steam version not the updater so it shows me playing Arma2:OA as hours played on steam

And it's not all the DLC, for better looking models/textures you need the british armed forces DLC.

you dont even need the arma launcher in my opinion. just install the beta patch then put this in your steam launch options. This way you can use the steam overlay to chat etc.

-beta=Expansion\beta;ca;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@DayZ;ca -nosplash -cpuCount=x

Also, you can download Arma2 Free and then you only have to buy Operation Arrowhead, saved me $10. I did everything through steam and it was actually quite painless, and updating isn't all bad imo.

I understand you can't install mods on arma 2 free, that includes dayZ

Works for me, it runs the map from Arma2 and the game engine from Operation Arrowhead and I think you're only actually modding OA. Works perfectly fine for me though.
