Probably the wrong distances. But here they are. As you can see, lod5 has some of the minor details removed, as well as some of the backfaces and faces that you wouldn't really notice at a distance. lod8 is just a shitty model so you can see something in the distance (it'll only be a couple of pixels tall at a distance, thats why no big detail is needed. A better job could definitely be done

One thing I'd recommend is to remove reflections from the lods. I didn't realise until recently that reflections actually add geometry, so they should probably be removed at a distance.

To add to that, I didn't really number those lods with respect to a geometric detail of 50. In retrospect, that is the way I should have done it

Thats nice, about time someone made a chest protector.

Modeling almost finished, just need to model brake calipers and a little more detail on the left side of the engine. Everything has been UV mapped. She is almost ready for skinning.

looks amazing attacker, any chance you can release a straight bar model and template? like the hondas bars?

I don't think you ever answered my question about the HD version poly count.. :( lol

Oh sorry, around 21k Tris probably. With my LODs it will be fine, there will also be a normal version, so no one will have an issue running it. The HD version is for those who have a good enough comp and want the extra benefit of more detail.

Ok, I had read the post about 2 models and LOD's, but hadn't heard or seen anything about poly count. Is the lower detail model going to have the same / similar wireframe, because I remember you saying something about a lower detail model being necessary..

Nah the problem is, I want to model a model with 22k tris, as this is what I need to get it to the detail I want. For me, this is not a problem since my computer can handle is, but I cannot just release this as some people would not be able to run such a high poly model, therefore I am also releasing a 15k model. Both will have LODs, the lower one will simply have a more basic close up mesh, meaning it will use less processor power. You will only need to download the one you want, because the names will be the same, the game will just load the HD one if you have the HD one installed or the SD one if you have the SD one installed.

The skins will be identical for both, the SD model will simply have less bolts and curves, therefor skins can be used by either model. It will be suggested that skinners will use the HD model to preview work, just to make sure it flows well on the HD model.

I just have to figure out a way of making normal maps work as well.

That looks absolute stunning attacker!

Would it be possible to reduce the 7,000 tris in the back of the bike, the area you don't see riding in 1st person view.
That way you could run the SD version, but still have a detailed cockpit.

Thank You.
To be honest, the area with the most polys is the engine and the wiring. So if I reduce just those we will be halfway there, I will try to leave the cockpit till last. :)
