You have me going on that subject now. The guy was correct, the cost of the rover was 2.5 billion. Though, its not like they just took that money all out at once and its not like every penny of that number went into parts for that rover. Most of that money was towards the salaries of the engineer's and programmers who had a hand in getting this rover together and making it successful. To getting the rocket that would take it up there and the multiple stages of equipment to get it safely down. We have also created the most impressive and advanced piece of machinery know to man yet.

Do we need this as a country? Your damn right we do, its the one way we can show other countries we aren't a bunch of idiots and that we are still trying to do something good for the Earth but, you have people saying that we can't afford that. NASA took nothing extra from tax dollars that they wouldn't have gotten already from there budget.

My only thing is, theres many incurable diseases and disorders. Id rather give the "fuck you" to other countries by finding a cure to cancer or something. Instead, we are "behind" in that field. Get what im saying?

I agree that exploring new planets is a good idea. New lifeforms (hopefully), minerals, water, etc. But, that is years ahead, and I think that's why there's a lot of people who don't care for it, because they won't see it in their lifetime.
I'm probably wrong at some point in this post, but a broken clock is right two times a day.

Well, since this a political topic now, then, yes we need to explore to prove that life can(and therefore DOES) exist other than here. It's very important to better understand what's up out there to maybe understand our own future here on this bloated, smoked-out planet that we can't just do a hone and re-ring.

It just seems to follow me, this time it got so bad that I just want to drop out of this college altogether. It all started in my ART APPRECIATION CLASS there was a picture with a tiny ass rocket at the top. the rocket wasn't the focal point but someone mentioned it and triggered this guy. This guy, who has obviously never seen a large amount of money in his life, was complaining about how much money the rover cost, 250 billion (swing and a miss), and he doesn't have a clue why we are spending that much money up there when it is doing absolutely no good. Then the teacher did nothing but help, saying that alot of good things come from NASA "but hey we got alot of nice things from the holocaust too." THE HELL? She then proceeded to take a poll of who thought the mission was a good idea by asking us to raise our hands. It was me and the sleeping people who did not raise our hands. Then she went on to talk for a good five to eight minutes about how people don't think we should be up there and we are wasting alot of money for things we have no immediate use for. YOU"RE AN ART TEACHER, STICK TO IT! I swear if it happens again and no one is for the mission I think i will leave. Its out of hand how stupid people are in this college. I didn't expect much from community but this is ridiculous.

It's hard to look the other way, ain't it? And to think these people have voting rights. People are too selfish and greedy to take the time to understand anything outside of their little bubble. I guess I inherited my mom's interest in science. I'm proud my tax dollars went to something tangible instead of searching for Saddam's giant cache's of WMD's, oh wait, they went to that too.

I won't tell about it but when they moved to the topic of politics and how these people waste so much money on their campaigns and how much they enjoyed seeing the convention in Florida I left. I, quite literally walked away and came home. I didn't get enough of the story to share but I could see it was going nowhere positive so that's where I cut it.
