Possible To Use modern suspension on 05 bike?
Possible To Use modern suspension on 05 bike?
Hey guys I've just been thinking about the suspension on my 05 kx250f which runs a kayaba setup. Could you simply swap out the suspension with say a 2012 Kayaba PSF fork and 2012 shock. Is it possible?
Ahh, just hit it wide open you'll be right

Re: Possible To Use modern suspension on 05 bike?
Not sure about that, it might not fit and stuff. If you want to upgrade your suspension you should just contact Race Tech or any other companie of that kind, they would make it pretty damn good.
Re: Possible To Use modern suspension on 05 bike?
If you can get triple clamps to support the thicker tubes, it should be right. But yeah, you might be better off contacting someone like race tech, as I don't think the OEM suspension is cheap
Re: Possible To Use modern suspension on 05 bike?
Is RaceTeh available in Australia? I've heard a lot about them they seem like a good company. Or will i have to use an aus company?

anything is available for the right price.
id suggest paying for shipping and handling with race tech, youll prob get a decent deal since the main guy is apart of the community. Its good stuff now too.

Oh, didn't realise you're Aussie.
Try Ian Wightman at Pro Moto Suspension in Singleton, who is probably the closest available for you. If I recall correctly, he uses Race Tech parts. I've had mine done at his before, he does a good job, and has a test track.
Race Tech isn't necessary, it's just that Checkerz works there and probably could have worked out a deal for you. Another option is Teknik suspension. You'll need to send it off, but they do a good job as well.
Buying stock suspension would be an expensive option, and it won't even be tuned properly. That stuff is lighter, but it won't work as good as just getting it tuned by a professional

As JB alluded to, sending it to America might be an option. You'll have to wait a bit longer, and the shipping might be pretty costly, but the parts and labour will probably be cheaper.

Re: Possible To Use modern suspension on 05 bike?
on the fork its easy, we used to make it on my 85 sx once, since its a open cartridge system, which you should have in your kawi aswell.
but i would just do it myself if i knew 100% that i am doing it right, if not let a pro do it. in addition, i dont think the newer parts will fit, cause the newer kawis use SFF systems.
oh and i would never touch the shock. the pressure in it is a tiny bit too much
If i were you, i would save some money for a newer bike.

One of the new kx or crf 250s would be nice especially the kawi with its dual fuel
.But dad would never buy a new bike, it costs too much. $11000 out here in Aus for a new bike
, when you americans can get them cheap.

I don't know for sure, but the somewhat newer KYBs off a 06+ yamaha might fit in your stock triple clamps. They're really decent forks in stock form. Otherwise look up the howto pages on smartperformanceinc.com.

There's great videos on youtube too. I've done my shock and forks about 5 times now, and it's not too bad, but you need to find a shop to purge and charge your shock with nitrogen when you're done. You'll probably be amazed the difference just fresh fluid and a fresh nitrogen charge will make.

I always thought that the AUD was less valuable than the USD, but apparently the USD is equal to 0.95 AUD. Why are bikes so expensive? Are Honda Civics like $30,000 too?

Everything is more expensive here. Less competition, less sales and higher taxes are pretty much the culprittyskorn wrote:I always thought that the AUD was less valuable than the USD, but apparently the USD is equal to 0.95 AUD. Why are bikes so expensive? Are Honda Civics like $30,000 too?
