Welcome!
Normally chain tension pulls the suspension down when you accelerate. (That's what the Boyesen link tried to stop.) It wouldn't be too hard to put chain tension in, but I didn't think it was that important.Make wrote:I'm pretty much with Shadow about all what he said.
There are few other things that I'd like to spot out: why doesn't rear suspension of the bike compress when you accelerate hard? And that opposite turning really-really, really annoys when you are trying to turn the bike in really slow speeds. Sure it works nice at high speeds, but is there any thing that could be done?
For the slow turning I've tried making it force the lean when going slow, but it's hard to make a smooth transition out of it.
I think it's important, because when you accelerate hard and rear suspension compresses you get much more traction from your rear wheel. And if you fully open your throttle on the lip of jump, compressed rear suspension would cause you to fly a bit higher.
Weight transfer combined to that forward-backward leaning would make the game better and more realistic I think. Very nice job so far anyway

I was thinking about it some more and I think the problem is more than just chain tension. When I put the output torque on the rear wheel, I put the opposite torque on the swingarm to maintain the correct angular momentum. Now that I think about it, that is wrong for a chain drive bike, it's more like how a hydraulic drive would act. For chain drive the counter torque should go to the frame instead of the swingarm. I'll go try that now...
Hmm, another thing popped into my mind. When you accelerate your bike, it likes to stay put, but your rear wheel pushes it forward. So your bike tries to resist that forward momentum, and that's another reason why some of the bikes weight moves to the rear tire.
Thats why FWD cars have less traction under acceleration when compared to RWD cars.
PS. That reset button what was mentioned in another topic would be nice.

Hi, just registered here yesterday and found out about this simulator yesterday. This looks to be very promising. While getting over the steep learning curve will take awhile, I feel the end result is going to be rewarding.
I've read quite a bit of the topics here and don't remember anyone mentioning the use of analog controls instead of these digital keys. Analog would enhance the simulation. With keyboard it is just full throttle or no throttle, full brakes or no brakes, ect. The ability to control throttle and brake position is very important. I understand analog for a car racing game is easier since wheels are available controlers, and there are currently no motorcycle handlebars for controllers.
Have you thought about letting the mouse be a controller? If you've ever played 'Dirt Bike' that was created by Brad Quick, he always used the mouse for throttle, brake, and steering.

Actually WAY back when Grand Turismo 4 came out i went to pick up the new DFP Wheel and i remember seeing a set of handlebars. I searched around and found some links ill post below, but to be honest i think i would much rather play with a game pad. The analog controls are horrible(or for the 5 seconds i tried them they were) and i can see them being alot more enjoyable with a set of bars in your hands, but when it comes to leaning, thats when i would rather have the game pad. How to simulate leaning with handlebars in your hands other then have a motion sensitive seat, much like an arcade game, would be tricky. If you watch closely in most motorcycle games you dont really turn the bars, you just lean.Netdemon01 wrote:Hi, just registered here yesterday and found out about this simulator yesterday. not sure if it has USB adapter but read up on it i just found another one that has leaning i think so ill post back

Ok well here you go i would actually like to give this one a try. Thrustmaster Freestyler

So far I think the game has alot of potential. I am using a 360 controller and have tried the whole range of sensitivities. I think its far to easy for the bike to fall over in almost all situations with a lower then 100 sensitivity.
Since this is a sim a real rider would be able to put his feet down for balance.

Currently when the rider has crashed, the game automatically rotates the bike so the rider is facing the correct direction. While it is quite helpful, it is probably something that should be left in the arcade physics. There are times when I crash in a corner, and the game faces me towards a hay bale. Quite possibly the most annoying thing lol
I am having a blast with this though. I've managed to get the stability down to 50 after many hours of practice. I can get some descent laps around Ekswanbee Park and managed a 1:16.xx. I'm hoping to get some videos uploaded to youtube. The more the better, this game needs to get popular!

I've been playing this game for some time now. I can't figure out how could I manage with the sim physics... It's just impossible for me, I'm on the ground half the time unless I use huge stability - slow turning, lame.
It's quite fun on the arcadIe anyway (powerslides, jumps, etc). I was thinking, how do you wheelie? I saw a video where the guy made a nice wheelie on flat..
I can't figure how you get the wheelie started on flat? Can you lean somehow?
Also the clutch... Damn. Whats the point of the manual clutch when it "auto clutches" at around 6krpm? Me wants to have full manual gears and clutches and stuff
(IRL It's snowy and icy and such now. I can't ride for real, maybe this game would help me through winter?)
btw. I like modding games, can you edit the bikes' gear ratio, power curve, paintings..?
